A plumeria is a tropical tree or shrub, which produces beautiful fragrant blooms. When you look through the plumeria in this catalog you will notice 2 prices under each variety: cutting vs. rooted cutting. Cuttings are 12 - 18" pieces of stem tissue that are going to come to you in a box with some paper and foam packing material. They look like, because they are, big fat greenish gray sticks. If you take this "stick" and follow our directions, you will find it easy to root, grow, and love. How long does it take to root one of these sticks? I cannot give the number of weeks it will take your plumeria to root because it varies with different varieties. Some plumeria are fast and may pop out a healthy clump of roots in 3 weeks. Others sit there for a spell and after that, they sit for another spell. I have seen some take over 6 months to root, but that is not common. Plumeria root the fastest in late spring through the summer. Heat is important. Here in Texas most plumeria root during our summers within 4 to 6 weeks. Some of our customers want only rooted plumeria, and for whatever reasons, they will have nothing to do with unrooted stock. This is fine, only please understand we only allow patient people to order rooted plumeria. When we receive an order for a rooted cutting, we check to see if we have any rooted stock ready to go. Often we do not; so at that point, we take a non-rooted cutting and we write your name on it. We pot that cutting and we wait. Often rooted cuttings ordered in the spring do not ship until mid to late summer because we are going to wait until the plant is well rooted before we ship it.
